The Grundfos MQ booster pump is a compact water supply system and has been designed for homes and agricultural and horticultural applications. It is a very compact water supply system and consists of a pump, motor, pressure vessel, and a controller. All components have been combined in an integral unit. The pressure boosting pump is self-priming and has a check valve on the inlet side. It has a built-in protection against overloading and overheating of the motor. In addition, this booster pump has dry-run protection. Thanks to its very silent operation (54dB), the pump can certainly be installed in a house.

The Grundfos MQ comes in two different versions:
Grundfos MQ 3-35
Grundfos MQ 3-45

Suitable for drinking water
Are you interested in the Grundfos booster pump? It is a great choice, as it is suitable for drinking water and has a wide range of applications. The pump is used as a booster pump for supply tanks (maximum inlet pressure 3 bar) and for instance, for pumping from a water source (maximum suction height of 8 metres. You can easily install and configure this pump. It is easy to connect because of the adjustable direction of the delivery connector. The simple control panel has a start/stop button as well as indicator lights to show the status. Be aware, since this booster is self-priming, it can also pump air. If you plan to use the Grundfos booster pump on a drinking water system, you need to install backflow protection on the pump in accordance with the Vewin requirements. Please contact us for this. This guarantees the quality of the drinking water.

Protection system
What's great about this pump is that it has an automatic restart function. If it is running dry or encounters another malfunction, the pump will stop automatically. The pump will attempt to restart every thirty minutes for a 24-hour period. Thanks to the innovative leakage detector, the pump will tell you if it has detected a leak. The built-in pressure vessel will limit the number of times it switches on and off. This limits unnecessary wear of your pump

Applications
The MQ pump has been designed for water supply and pressure boosting and is suitable for use:

  • in homes
  • in holiday and weekend homes
  • on farms
  • in kitchen gardens and large gardens.

This pump is suitable for pumping drinking water and rainwater.

Characteristics and advantages

  • All-in-one pressure boosting unit
  • Easy to install
  • Easy to operate
  • Self-priming
  • Dry running protection
  • Low noise
  • Low maintenance

Silent

This pump is labelled 'silent'. Naturally, a pump will produce noise like any other electrical device, but special attention was paid to the noise level. Thanks to its very low noise level, this pump can also be installed in a home without causing a nuisance. This is of course a subjective matter. However, pumps don't come any more silent than these ones.

Stainless steel/Inox

Stainless steel – also called Inox – can be very handy in some cases. Stainless steel is particularly recommended in drinking water applications. Drinking water has to remain uncontaminated and cannot contain corrosion. For this reason, stainless steel is used. Stainless-steel pumps are also resistant against limescale. Limescale has a tendency to build up, which is impossible on smooth, stainless-steel surfaces. The alternative to stainless steel is usually cast iron. These pumps can corrode. This is why these pump types are often used for irrigation. A final advantage of stainless steel is that it does not weight as much as cast iron and is therefore easier to move.

Grundfos

Grundfos is one of the largest pump manufacturers in the world. They have a big piece of the industrial market, and for good reason. For decades, they have delivered the best possible quality. It is for this reason that many systems and situations these days use Grundfos pumps. Do not be surprised if you see your central heating system is equipped with a Grundfos circulation pump. Grundfos was originally a Danish company that has now expanded to many countries around the world and gained a considerable market share. In addition to central heating pumps and industrial products, Grundfos also sells a number of irrigation/booster pumps and they have a range of very robust and high-quality submersible pumps.

Protection against dry running of the pump

This pump is protected against dry running. Most pumps can't run dry for long or at all. This can result in the pump jamming and/or burning out immediately. This can happen when the well runs dry, and the pump is no longer able to suck in water. Irrigation pumps or booster pumps are particularly vulnerable to this. Some borehole pumps and more advanced irrigation pumps have standard built-in dry running protection. A pump that dies not comes standard with this, can easily be equipped with dry running protection, for instance, by adding a separate dry-run protection system or DAB Control-D. This ensures that your booster pump or irrigation pump will not run dry.

Switches on/off automatically

This pump switches on or off automatically when you turn on a tap somewhere that is connected to this pump. In many cases, it's very convenient if your pump switches on and off automatically. For instance, when you use it for irrigation with a hand nozzle. Or if you use rainwater to supply your toilet or washing machine. Certainly when you want to boost water pressure in your home too. Unlike a standard irrigation pump, a booster pump 'notices' when you turn on one or more taps, by registering a pressure difference. The pump will know it has to either start or stop. Standard booster pumps (installed on a tank) have a mechanical switch. More advanced booster pumps use an electronic switch. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. The mechanical switch is reliable but can't be (easily) adjusted. The electronic version can be adjusted but relies on electricity.
