    Description of the Grundfos SCALA2

    Brief specifications

    • Pump capacity: 4,700 l/h
    • Delivery head 45 m / Pressure 4.5 bar (adjustable)
    • Switches on/off automatically and with dry-running protection
    • Quiet and suitable for continuous operation
    • Particularly suitable for increasing water pressure in the house

    Pros and cons

    • Absolute top quality
    • High operational reliability
    • Dry-running resistant
    • Switches on/off automatically
    • Adjustable capacity
    • Adjustable pressure
    • Can run continuously
    • Quiet
    • Speed controlled and efficient; will supply more, if you use more water points = more cost-effective
    • Resistant to limescale and rust
    • Does not provide as much pressure and flow rate as the DAB e.sybox mini 3

If you opt for the SCALA2, you will be going for a compact and quiet all-in-one booster pump. This pump is capable of providing very good water pressure for all taps around the house whenever desired, even with multiple taps and showers running at the same time. It is a pump, motor, tank, sensor, driver, and non-return valve all in one compact unit. SCALA2's intelligent pump control automatically adjusts the capacity to the pre-pressure and water consumption in the house. Its water-cooled motor makes the SCALA2 one of the quietest boosters and ideal to use.

What does intelligent pump control mean in my situation?

The SCALA2 is equipped with a built-in sensor, which continually measures the delivery pressure. If the pressure drops below the desired level, the SCALA2 will increase it immediately to compensate for pressure loss. This is called intelligent pump control, which results in very good water pressure.

Advantages of the Grundfos SCALA 2 Booster Pump

    • Always the right and desired water pressure
    • Very quiet (47 dB), similar to a modern dishwasher
    • Plug & Play
    • User-friendly control, which makes it easy to operate
    • Dry-running protection
    • Long lasting and maintenance-free

What can the Grundfos SCALA 2 be used for?

The Grundfos SCALA2 can be used as a pressure booster in houses with a maximum of three floors and eight taps. In addition, it can be used as a rainwater pump (for indoor rainwater use), or as a garden pump for spraying the garden. However, this pump has a maximum suction depth of eight metres.

    Summary

    • Provides sufficient pressure and capacity for about five sprinklers
    • The hose that can be used for this pump has a diameter of 1" for the delivery connection and 1" for the suction connection
    • Draws water from a maximum depth of 8 metres
    • The maximum delivery head is 45 metres, which equals 4.5 bar output

    Quiet

This pump is labelled as being 'quiet'. Of course, like any electric appliance, a pump can be heard, but special attention has been given to its noise level. Thanks to its ultra-low noise level, the pump is highly suitable to be placed indoors, without being disturbing. The perception of noise is subjective, of course, but no other pumps are quieter than these.

    Variable water supply

This pump is fitted with a speed controller, which is particularly handy for pressure-boosting pumps to which multiple water points are connected. If one water point is opened, the pump will start operating at a low level, and if several are opened, it will speed up to the required capacity. Pumps lacking such a device will start pumping at full speed, irrespective of the required capacity. These models are limited to the switch on/switch off mode, and are therefore considerably less energy efficient. As a result, speed controlling occurs mainly with a variable water supply and frequent or long-term use, such as to increase water pressure in your home. The DAB Easybox series is particularly useful to increase water pressure, and is therefore always fitted with a speed controller.

    Grundfos

Grundfos is one of the largest pump manufacturers in the world. They have managed to obtain a substantial share in the industrial market, and have achieved this by supplying the highest quality products over a period of several decades. As a result, Grundfos pumps are currently used in many installations and situations. Not surprisingly, your central heating system may also be fitted with a Grundfos circulation pump. Grundfos was originally a Danish company but it is now represented in many countries all over the world. In addition to manufacturing central heating pumps and targeting the industrial market, Grundfos also sells several garden and booster pumps, and has a line of very robust, high-quality submersible pumps.

    Dry-running protection

The name says it all: this pump is protected from running dry. Most pumps cannot, if at all, operate dry for long, which usually ends in the pump immediately burning out and/or seizing. For example, this could happen if the source has run dry and the pump can no longer draw water from it. Garden and booster pumps are particularly sensitive to running dry. Some borehole pumps and somewhat more advanced garden pumps are already equipped with built-in dry-running protection. Others can be easily fitted with a dry-running protection system: for example, with a separate one or with the DAB Control-D. This definitely guarantees that the garden or booster pump will not run dry.

    Automatic activation / deactivation

This pump switches on or off automatically if you open or close a water point that is connected to the pump. In many cases, this feature is a considerable advantage: for example, when irrigating a garden with a hand-held sprayer, or supplying a toilet or washing machine with rainwater. It is also useful if you want to increase the water pressure in your home. Unlike standard garden pumps, booster pumps - because of the difference in pressure - 'notice' when one or more water points are opened or closed. This is how the pump knows that it needs to start or stop. Standard booster pumps (which are mounted to a tank) are equipped with a mechanical switch, and the more advanced ones have electronic switches. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. The mechanical switch is reliable but can either not be set or it is difficult to do so, while the electronic version can be set but is dependent on electricity.
